| My work comes from a place where art, nature and the human spirit meet. |
Linda Brunker is an internationally renowned artist. She's been a full time sculptor
since graduating from Art College in 1988 in her native Ireland. She developed her
own innovative style of bronze casting which astonished not only the foundry where
she worked but the public who rushed to buy her sculptures. Her exhibitions and
public commissions have attracted much critical acclaim. She has had sell out solo
shows in Dublin and New York and has private and public commissions worldwide.
In November 2007 she opened her own gallery in West Hollywood called 'Gallery
13 - Irish Fine Art' showing an ongoing display of her poetic creations.
Her commissions include 'Voyager' - a 10ft female figure made from a filigree of
bronze elements from the sea which overlooks the Pacific Ocean at the Montage
Hotel, Laguna Beach. In 2006 she completed another commission in Laguna Beach
at City Hall called 'The Peoples Council'. This work in granite and bronze is the
largest public commission ever awarded by the Arts Commission in Laguna Beach.
Some of Linda's other public commissions include 'The Wishing Hand', commissioned by the Irish Ministry of Education, 'The Ocean Meets The Land', The Maui Marriot Hotel, Hawaii, 'Connect', Telecom Ireland, London Office, 'Awakening', Rue Montroyer, Brussells, Belgium and many large scale private and public commissions in Europe and the USA.
Linda Brunker has been renowned in her native Ireland for her unique style which
challenges the traditional concept of bronze figurative sculpture. After twenty years
of success she sought fresh inspiration and was drawn to California by its diverse
landscape and cultures. In 2005 she relocated her studio to Southern California
where she makes sculptures on all scales from monumental, corporate and public
sculptures to small tabletop pieces in bronzes or stone.
Her sculptures are typically based on the human figure and have a strong ecological and spiritual quality. Masses of natural elements such as leaves, feathers or starfish are intricately woven together to give form to elegant figures which are then cast is bronze. This is the basis of her trademark 'filligree' style where she creates poetic
images "composed into flowing shapes which echo the rhythms of wind, fire and water." |
